John began his clinical experience at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1998. He is now the administrator of the UT program (now some 300+ lasers strong) including the disciplines of medical/surgical specialties including Cardio-Thoracic, Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oral Surgery, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Urology, General and Neurologic Surgery. With his academic and developmental involvement in light medicine John has a unique ability to gauge and review most of the new and emerging light and noninvasive technologies being brought to bear in today’s ever changing surgical/clinical world. He has had the honor and pleasure to be involved with revolutionary new laser and light applications in the past few years that significantly affected both the quality and duration of patient’s lives.

E. Victor Ross, M.D., CAPT MC, USN (ret) attended Mississippi State University where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in physics. He obtained his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine where he was a junior year inductee into Alpha Omega Alpha. Following internship, Dr. Ross went to Sasebo, Japan as a General Medical Officer. In 1992, he completed a three-year dermatology residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. In 1994, he was the first Navy-sponsored fellow in photomedicine and lasers at the Massachusetts General Hospital. While there, he conducted basic research experiments and human clinical trials in photodynamic therapy and novel laser applications in dermatology. He was honored as the 2001 Navy Recipient of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Award for excellence in Military Medicine.

Dr. Ross is presently the director of the Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology Center at Scripps Clinic in San Diego. He also served on the boards of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (president in 2008), the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Society for Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery. His special interests are fractional laser skin rejuvenation, photodynamic therapy, non-ablative skin remodeling, laser management of scars, laser treatment of acne, and laser hair reduction in dark skinned patients. He is the author of over 100 articles and nine book chapters. Presently, Dr. Ross is investigating novel approaches in pigment quantification as well as conducting comparative trials of picosecond laser sources, novel RF technologies in skin rejuvenation, photon recycling, and laser assisted acne treatments.

Patti Owens provides consultation services in the areas of medical safety programs along with medical compliance services. She has been an active member of AORN for 29 years, and presently, Patti is serving as the President of the eChapter for the 2023 – 2024 term. In addition, Patti is the AORN representative on the ANSI SSC-3 “Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care.” She was also selected as a Subject Matter Expert for the 2021 new AORN “Guideline for Laser Safety.” In addition, Patti is the recipient of the 2020 AORN Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Practice award.

She has been the Nursing/Allied Health Chairperson of ASLMS and, in 1999 and 2014, received the Nurse Excellence Award. She served three years as the ASLMS Nursing-Allied Health Representative to the Board and was the Laser Safety Officer for 2019-2022. Patti is a national consultant for various laser companies and professional organizations, including an appointment as the principal medical and aesthetic instructor for Rockwell Laser Industries. Patti is an active member of the ANSI Z136.3 committee, where she has been appointed as the acting Secretary. She also serves as a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) TC 76 WG4 and WG12.

Patti Owens works with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon and has acted as a perioperative nurse, aesthetic practitioner, Compliance Officer and Administrative Assistant in Rancho Mirage, CA. Patti’s previous employer for 11 years was with a Dermatologist in Olympia, WA. She acted as the Aesthetic Laser Manager, LSO, and laser practitioner. Patti’s past employment also includes 15 years as the Laser Manager at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA. Her responsibilities included program development and supervision of 13 laser systems, implementation of the laser perioperative role, development of an aesthetic laser in-house and mobile program, and enforcement of safety policies as the facility’s acting LSO.

Jessica H. Kaylor MMS, PA-C, IFMCP, owner/Founder of The Functional Derm LLC, has 16 years clinical experience in medical and aesthetic dermatology. Reaching for better answers to patient questions like "why do I have this?" or "will I need to take these medications and have this problem for life?" urged Jessica to certify as a practitioner with the Institute for Functional Medicine. Currently, I practice actively while preparing to open a new clinic in the Ottawa region, blending hands-on patient care with strategic leadership. I also work closely with leading medical device manufacturers and distributors to develop world-class training programs that set new standards in the aesthetic field. My passion for education is reinforced by my certification with the Canadian Board of Educators and a wealth of experience training and mentoring professionals worldwide. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Science (Biology) and a certification in aesthetics, along with numerous other licenses and credentials. Driven by a deep thirst for knowledge, I continually update my skills through advanced training and workshops, ensuring I stay at the forefront of innovations in the aesthetic field.

Jill S. Waibel, MD, practices as a board-certified dermatologist specializing in general dermatology, cutaneous laser surgery, and cosmetic dermatology for adults and children. She is in private practice in Miami, Florida, and Coral Gables, Florida. She is currently the medical director and owner of the Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute in Miami. Dr. Waibel is the subsection chief of Dermatology at Baptist Hospital. In addition, Dr. Waibel serves as a Clinical Voluntary Assistant Professor at the University of Miami. She is a world-recognized leader in dermatologic laser surgery and lectures worldwide to train other physicians. In her practice, she has over 40 laser devices and treats a wide variety of cutaneous diseases. Dr. Waibel is active in basic science clinical trials at the University of Miami and has a clinical trials division at Miami Dermatology and Research. One of Dr. Waibel’s primary passions is the treatment of scars by applying today’s latest cutaneous laser technologies. She has successfully developed industry-leading procedures and techniques with lasers, received numerous awards for her contributions to medicine, and published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and several textbook chapters. She was named “Person of the Week” on ABC World News Tonight in 2015 and was recently granted a Cutting Edge Research Grant by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to medicine, including an award given by Surgeon General Koop. The 2016 JDD Humanitarian Award has been given to Dr. Waibel for her innovative work in using lasers to treat patients with traumatic burn injuries. Dr. Waibel lectures, collaborates, and trains military physicians to help the wounded warriors. Dr. Waibel makes her home in Coral Gables with her husband and four children.

Molly Wanner, M.D., M.B.A., is a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in laser and cosmetic dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital and is an assistant professor in dermatology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Wanner conducts clinical and basic science research in the areas of cosmetic and laser dermatology. Her research interested include topical cosmetic products and laser and cosmetic devices.

Dr. Wanner has authored numerous scientific publications and is frequently used as a clinical expert source. Dr. Wanner is a board member of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Wanner also contributes to popular consumer media.
